If you’re looking for a meaningful yet affordable DIY handmade gift idea, I’ve got a project you’re going to love. It’s simple, stylish, and perfect for Christmas, birthdays, or any occasion when you want to give something from the heart. It is even suitable for beginner crafters.
Recently, I created a framed artwork piece using Stampin’ Up!’s Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper (DSP) and a 9″ x 9″ IKEA frame. The result? A thoughtful DIY gift that costs under $15, but looked like it came straight from a boutique gift store.
The Beautiful Gallery DSP is one of my current favourites from the 2025-26 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue. With 48 sheets of moody florals, textured landscapes, and artistic brushstrokes, it has the look and feel of an old-world gallery—with all the versatility we love for cardmaking, scrapbooking, and papercraft projects.
For this project, I chose one 6″ x 6″ sheet that really spoke to me (although narrowing it down was no easy task—there are 12 double-sided designs to choose from!). I mounted the paper behind the frame mat, creating an elegant background that became the heart of the design.
To personalise the piece, I added a stamped sentiment that suited the person I was gifting it to. That’s one of the best things about papercrafting—you can make it uniquely meaningful. Whether it’s a DIY Christmas gift, a birthday gift for a friend, or even an end-of-year thank you for a teacher, this project can be tailored for any occasion.
As a finishing touch, I added a few strokes (for those who know me well, this is a gross understatement) of Wink of Stella—my go-to for adding just the right amount of sparkle. It gave the whole project a soft shimmer that catches the light beautifully, without overpowering the design. Sadly, the sparkle does not show up well in the photo. I also added some Pressed Flower Motifs from the same Suite Collection.
These products are available from my online store.
What I love most about this idea is that it combines creativity and purpose. It’s handmade, it’s personal, and it doesn’t break the bank.
This framed piece would look lovely in a hallway, bedroom, or craft nook—and it’s a great way to use your favourite patterned paper in a way that lasts. Plus, it’s a fun change from the usual cardmaking routine.
If you’ve been searching for a handmade birthday gift, or you’re starting to think about DIY Christmas gifts, add this to your list. It’s quick to make, affordable, and full of heart.
