Decorated Candle – the perfect handmade gift
Like you, I am always looking for that perfect gift. And I needed the perfect gift today for a dear friend who had a milestone birthday. Recently, I have been using stamped candles to create gorgeous easy handmade gifts. Check out my Christmas decorated candle. But I love candles with no flames, so much safer, especially around kids. Most flameless candles are not made of wax and therefore are not suitable for stamping. But they are great for decorating.
I did say that I wanted a very special gift, so this is a scented 100% wax flameless candle with a dancing wick. It is so realistic that you cannot tell the difference between a traditional candle and Luminara candle. But for me, they look a little plain unlit, which is the majority of the time. It needed to be decorated!
Base Layer: Bermuda Bay Cardstock;
Designer Series Paper Layer: Sneak Peek – Petal Passion Designer Series Paper (DSP) – available 3 January 2018;
Pick a Pattern Washi Tape (Basic Black): one strip around the DSP layer as pictured above.
Petal Passion Embellishments – available 3 January 2018;
7/8 ” Striped Ribbon (Black & White) – my absolute favourite of this season as it packs such a punch. I am stocking up now as it will not be available after 3 January.
Vintage Crochet Trim;
Bermuda Bay Sequins (retired);
Silver Sequins (retired but available in a small sequin);
Hot Glue Gun – I use the industrial strength one by Bosch as it has a useful fine nozzle.
If you are going to decorate the candle, for me, you have to also gift wrap the present. I was able to use some of my retired ribbon stash. Stampin’ Up! always have fabulous cello bags that make this job easy. Quite often these can be found in the Clearance Rack.
Adding another layer of ribbon to the gift wrapping – Bermuda Bay 3/8″ Mini Chevron Ribbon and the Merry Little Labels tag – made it pop even more. I have used this stamp set and the Everyday Label Punch so many times this season.
The two-tone colouring on the tag was achieved by using Stampin’ Write markers – direct markers to stamp technique (Bermuda Bay and Basic Black markers).
Both bows for the project are ‘faux bows’. To create the bow effect, I wrapped Whisper White Baker’s Twine around the centre of the ribbon.
I did add a small box of handmade gift cards using the Year of Cheer DSP.
Tuesday night 7 pm (Brisbane time or 8 pm AEDT) – Facebook Live “How to line up cardstock layers on cards evenly”. I will also be discussing which adhesives to use when in cardmaking. I will be saving the post, so it can be checked out after the event. Please leave some comments whilst you are watching.
Also on all Stampin’ Up! orders for Monday 27 November (AEDT), you will receive FREE shipping. This offer is good for big orders, small orders, and even gifts to others. Let Stampin’ Up! pay for your postage for a day.
