Pretty Kitty Sampler Birthday card

A special Pretty Kitty

I don’t get to play too often as I am always preparing projects for classes or special events.  But I needed a special card for a friend – it had to be special because the recipient is a talented cardmaker who always creates the most divine cards for me for my birthday.  If you are a regular reader of my blog you know that I am a willing slave to my two cats, Oscar and Tiger – so, yes, I am a ‘cat’ person.  I was delighted when I first saw the stamp set, Pretty Kitty, in the new catalogue.  It would prove to be the perfect set to use for Marcia’s card, who is also a cat tragic.

It was late at night when I decided to start the card.  I got so caught up in the creative experience that I finished it that night.  I love making samplers and I treated this like a mini sampler.  I had so much fun – the expressions on these kitties are priceless.

I used the Layering Squares Framelits which made both the plain and scalloped squares uniform.   It was another opportunity to use a little bit of colour to highlight certain features – which made the card easier to create and whilst still retaining the WOW factor.  This is not a standard card size, so I also had to hand make an envelope using the Envelope Punch Board.

Details of my Pretty Kitty Birthday Card:

The finished dimensions of the card were 6-5/8 inches x 4-1/2 inches.  The scalloped Watermelon Wonder Squares are 2″; the Whisper Squares are 1-5/8″. The squares were diecut using the Layering Squares Framelits.

The kitty images are stamped in Archival Basic Gray and water-coloured in Smoky Slate.  Less was better for this colouring technique.   Each of the Watermelon Wonder ‘pops of colour’ was water coloured using an aqua painter.  They were then highlighted with Clear Wink of Stella (the photo doesn’t show this but in real life these absolutely sparkle).   Kitty’s ears were lightly coloured with Blushing Bride.  The Watermelon Wonder squares were adhered using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The Whisper White Baker’s Twine was adhered using Glue Dots.

The sentiment for the card insert is from the Endless Birthday Stamp Set.

  • Watermelon Wonder card base: 6-5/8″ x 9″;
  • Basic Black Layer 4-3/8″ x  6-1/2″;
  • Inside Whisper White Layer 4-1/4″ x  6-3/8″.

To create the envelope: Using the Envelope Generator App (Ios) and the card measurements  (6-5/8 inches x 4-1/2 inches), I cut the Envelope Paper 9-1/8″ square and scored at 3-3/4″ .

I hope you have enjoyed this project.
