Hey Chick Shaker Card
This shaker card was created for the March Global Stampers Challenge. I wanted to use the Hey Chick stamp set, another FREE stamp set from the Sale-a-Bration Catalogue. This stamp set has been one of the most popular – in fact, it sold out within a few days but has now been restocked. But it never grabbed me. So it was another one of my stamp sets sitting on my shelf ‘unloved’. So this challenge gave me the opportunity to drag it out and create something I love.
And I do love this card! But I had no intention of creating a shaker card when I first started. It only turned into a shaker card halfway through the creative process. I build a card, bit by bit with no actual plan in place (this process may not work for you though) – pick a product (Hey Chick Stamp Set and Serene Scenery Paper Stack) to be featured, then decide on the colours (Delightful Dijon, Marina Mist, Pacific Point, Rose Red and Cajun Craze).
Tips and Tricks
This is card is not for beginners but as always if you take your time, it is not difficult.
The centre of the frames (Whisper White and Delightful Dijon Designer Series Paper) were each cut out with the two largest of the Layering Squares Framelit Dies. I stamped the window sheet using the Hexagon Dynamic Textured Embossing Folder and Black Stazon (which is the ink suitable for stamping on Window Sheet or non-porous surfaces). Make sure you allow the Stazon ink time to dry before using the Window Sheet.
The Chick image was stamped onto the Whisper White Cardstock first, then masked off, and then the wood grain image was stamped in Delightful Dijon. The mask was then removed. This chick was watercoloured in Rose Red and Delightful Dijon.
The two chicks on the very front of the card were stamped in Cajun Craze and the second chick was coloured using Marina Mist and Pacific Point.
The ‘birthday’ image from the hostess set, Time of Year, and the ‘happy’ image (from the Hey Chick Stamp Set) was fussy cut but there is a framelit to match if you don’t like fussy cutting.
To stop the sequins sticking to the Foam Adhesive Strips, used to create the shaker card, I rubbed the Embossing Buddy over the non-adhesive edges.
Card sandwich (from top to bottom):
- 4-5/8″ square Serene Scenery Paper Stack
- 4-1/4″ square Whisper White cardstock
- 3-1/2″ square Window Sheet (adhered with Fast Fuse) stamped using Hexagon folder
- Foam Adhesive Strips – two squares – inner square close to cutout; outer square close to edge of Serene Scenery cardstock – creating the shaker card layers
- 4″ square Whisper White cardstock stamped in Delightful Dijon using the Hardwood Background Stamp Set. I did spritz the inked stamp lightly before stamping.
- Card base 5″ x 10″.
