Sale-a-Bration’s Tasty Trucks are the sweetest!
I am sure you have your favourite stamp sets, as do I and I have to admit that the Tasty Trucks stamp set wasn’t one of my favourites from the Sale-a-Bration Catalogue. To take it a little further, I might have even disliked it somewhat. What do can do with this set? …. Then the Global Stampers decided that this was going to be our challenge for the month of February. So it was time to accept the challenge and use one of my least favourites. But I can’t do things by halves so I had to make this a special card, using techniques (watercolouring and layering) that I enjoy using. Adding images from one of my favourite stamp sets, Sheltering Tree, would help as well, I hoped. And now I love the stamp set and this card is very special to me. Can’t wait to share it with someone special.
How did I make this cute Tasty Trucks card?
Preparation:
Bermuda Bay C/S base 8-1/4″ x 4-1/8″; Shimmery White C/S 5-1/4″ x 3-7/8″ + scrap piece for truck cutout.
Tips and Tricks:
This is card is two layers with the truck being stamped twice, once on the scrap piece of Shimmery White C/S. Add flags and banners to layer of the truck. I stamped the truck image onto a post-it note, fussy cut and masked the truck image on layer 1. Stamp the truck awning (shade) onto a separate piece of Shimmery White C/S and fussy cut.
Stamp the Sheltering Tree images – trunk in Basic Gray, the flowers in Melon Mambo and again in Pink Pirouette, the ground in Smoky Slate. Some of this stamp will go onto your mask which will protect your truck image. With hindsight, you probably don’t even need to mask as you are covering layer 1 with layer 2.
Using Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker, colour the tyres on layer 1. Add the ice-cream cones ; colour (I used Melon Mambo, Tangerine Tango and Daffodil Delight markers). Layer 2 of the truck was coloured with markers and aqua painters. Cut out the serving window of the truck on layer 2 (I used a craft knife).
Waterwash (Aqua Painters) the truck service window (Layer 1) with Pink Pirouette. Waterwash the sky in Soft Sky. Waterwash means to apply a light watercolour to the background of the card.
Make sure you allow time between layers to dry so that the images do not bleed (this only takes a few minutes on Shimmery White C/S). Stamp the sentiment from the Tasty Trucks in the right hand corner using Basic Gray Archival Ink.
Adhere the fussy cut truck stamped image (layer 2) to layer 1 with Stampin’ Dimensionals, carefully lining up the images. Adhere your fussy cut awning (shade) using rolled up glue dots.
I used Shimmery White Cardstock for this card because:
- It has this gorgeous shimmer to it;
- It handles the water well when watercolouring;
- It is ‘whiter’ than Watercolor Paper.
