Beautiful You Watercolour Tile

Sometimes I have a creative blitz and I can’t wait to make a project – and this was one of those projects.  I have been playing around stamping on glazed tiles using Stazon but it was too fiddly to enjoy.  I changed the type of tile I was using to a ceramic bisque tile (the orange toning is part of the tile) – tiles with no ‘finish’ on them.

I still have so many stamp sets from the new 2017 Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalogue that I have yet to play.  Therefore I picked my new favourite stamp sets from the new catalogue: Beautiful You and Mediterranean Moments.

I did get a bit carried away and decided to trial a new technique as well – watercolouring on tiles using Stampin’ Up!’s new Watercolor Pencils, which I absolutely love.  They make it so easy to colour images and this project shows how versatile they are. The technique worked, so I was very excited – so excited that I couldn’t wait to share this project with you.

I will be decorating some more tiles using different stamps from these two sets.  Hopefully they turn out as well.

Beautiful You Watercoloured Tile Project Details:

4-1/4″ (11cm) Ceramic Bisque Tiles (purchased from the local pottery shop), cleaned using rubbing alcohol.

Techniques featured:

  1. masking – I stamped the image of the lady on the tile first, restamped the image onto an adhesive post-it note, fussy cut it out and then adhered over the original image on the tile.  Then stamped background stamp and then removed mask;
  2. watercolouring using Blender Pens (Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive)

Inks: Basic Black Archival Ink and Basic Grey Archival Ink (recently reinked)

I backed the back of the tile with an adhesive cork square. I sprayed the finished tile with a protective matt spray (Craft Smart available from local Spotlight store) making sure that the ink etc. were completely dry.

The sentiment (Live Laugh Love) from the Beautiful You Stamp Set was restamped (Basic Black Archival Ink) down the tile without reinking. I did not measure between each stamping.

    Love your tiles. Our minds must run on the same track. I just finished making some for an upcoming class on Beautiful You. I have made tiles for years using unglazed marble tiles, but I too decided to try the bisque tiles that are unglazed and love them. The water color pencils make it so much easier that they way I use to do them
    Don’t you love being a Stampin’Up Independent Demonstrator. We are like one big family and share so much with each other and make on line friends with other demonstrators around the world.

      Thanks Joyce. Glad you like this project. Unglazed tiles are hard to source here in Australia, not impossible but not easy. And yes, I do love being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and one of the best bits is my friendship with other demonstrators who inspire me like you, Joyce. Keep inspiring us, Joyce and thanks for dropping by.

    Really enjoyed doing this class. Didn’t think I would be able to do it.
    Gives a new dimension to using the wonderful Stamping Up products.

      Thanks Cartes. Thanks so much for dropping by and providing some lovely feedback. Of course you can CASE it, that is why I shared the details. It is not a difficult project and hopefully I will post a video on how I created it next week. Good luck with finding the tiles. And Happy New Year to you.
