Painted Harvest Stamp Set goes Festive

How to rework a traditional Fall stamp set into a classic Christmas card

I am starting to get a little ‘antsy’ about Christmas.  A couple of days ago one of my friends posted a Facebook meme about it being only 100 days to Christmas. Really – it can’t be…. but I didn’t want to waste any time checking the facts because despite what I think, Christmas is coming around too fast.   So I need to get a wriggle on creating Christmas cards to inspire you.  At the moment I am fascinated with how versatile so many of the stamp sets are from the 2017 Stampin’ Up! Christmas Holiday Catalogue.  Check out this post using the Detailed Gate Thinlits.  One of my catalogue favourites is the Painted Harvest Stamp Set which was principally designed to be an Autumn/Fall product.

Usually, I don’t like this style but for some unknown reason, I love this set.  I couldn’t wait to share my Christmas card with you and, as you guessed, it features the Painted Harvest Stamp Set.   I would like to thank Mary Petersen (no blog) for her original inspiration. For me, there are two main qualities that make a traditional Christmas card – the Christmas colours of green and red and a festive sentiment. This card has both.

Measurements and Supplies:

Time required: 1/2 hr  Experience Required: some card making experience useful but not necessary.

Real Red Cardbase: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/4″

Early Espresso layer: 5-1/4″ x 3-7/8″

Whisper White layer: 5-1/8″ x 3-3/4″

To get correct placement of the ‘leaves’, I drew a light pencil line at an angle from the 1/4″ mark at the top to 1/4″ from the bottom on the side of the Whisper White layer. Rub this pencil line out after stamping your ‘tree’ and sentiment images, allowing time for the ink to dry.

The Painted Harvest Stamp Set uses a two-step stamping technique.  Stamp the flowers in two colours, Emerald Envy (more detailed stamp) and Tranquil Tide.  I stamped eight flowers in total, with the majority partially off the cardstock.  This is not a colour combination I would usually use but I think it works really well on this project.  The centres of the flowers are stamped in Real Red.  I filled in some of the white spaces left between the ‘leaves’ with the nut image, stamped in Early Espresso.

The sentiment is a two-step stamp.  I stamped the outline in Early Espresso first and then stamped the patterned sentiment image in Real Red.   I lined up the sentiment stamp with the pencil line drawn before.  This stamp certainly has incredible pop and I think it is the feature of the card.

I hope you love this Christmas card as much as I do.  It is also a fun card to create and the stamping is easy to complete.

Assemble card as per photo.  Decorate inside of the card as desired.  I stamped a corner of a Whisper White cardstock insert with three flowers, mostly stamped off the edge.
