Water Wash Background technique

Sometimes handmade cards can appear to be difficult to recreate but this one is really ‘easy peasy’.  This card was also one of the projects for my Better than Hallmark Creative Class last month.  It uses a simple water wash clear block background technique. Apply colour onto your clear block (Block E was a good size for this smaller card) with your selected markers, spritz with loads of water then stamp the block onto your paper.

I usually apply the paper to the block and press firmly, rather than the reverse.

I used Whisper White cardstock but you could use Watercolor Paper or Shimmery White card stock, if you wished. Great for backgrounds and no two cards will ever turn out the same! Once the background was dry (allow plenty of time), I stamped the sentiment and adhered (Fine Tip Glue Pen) the die cut from the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits.

Details of the Dragonfly Dreams water wash card:

Bermuda Bay Card Base: 4″ x 8″; Whisper White layer 3-3/4″ x 3-3/4″.

Stampin’ Write Markers: Pool Party, Bermuda Bay and Night of Navy (I love how the Night of Navy turned a little violet once the water was added).

Die Cut: Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits using the Bermuda Bay Glimmer Paper (SAB – sadly now retired).

Stamp Set (sentiment): Balloon Celebration.

Because the card stock (especially if it is not watercolor paper) will warp with the water, it is important to use a strong glue (Liquid Multipurpose Glue) around all the edges, so your layer sits flat onto your card base.
