Global Stampers January Bog Hop – Myths & Magic Suite

Hello and welcome to our January blog hop. This month we are sharing our favourite products from the 2018 Occasions Catalogue.  It was easy for me to pick the Myths & Magic Suite.  My niece had given birth to a son, Tyler.  Excitingly, this was the first male born into our family for over a couple of generations.  As soon as I saw the Myths & Magic Suite in the Occasions Catalogue at OnStage, I knew I would be featuring it on Tyler’s Name Plaque.  Whilst the Suite has some feminine images, the Myths & Magic Suite is full of ‘boy’ stuff – wizards, dragons, boys and soldiers.  I couldn’t wait to start this project and it was so easy to design.  It isn’t always this easy….

You are currently visiting me, Ann Lewis, so if you ‘hopped’ forward to my blog from Alicia or, back from Fiona or are just starting here, welcome.  You will be able to hop around all the blogs by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of this post.  I hope you enjoy our projects and please feel free to leave a comment before you leave.

The Story Behind the Myths & Magic Suite Name Plaque

Every now and then your creative juices just flow.  And this was one of those projects.  Some of the images are stamped and die cut using the coordinating dies whilst others were fussy cut from the Designer Series Paper, called Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP).  The castle was cut free hand.  Now I am not that artistic (might be creative), but this was easy.  The most difficult part was cutting up the patterned paper – it was too cute and it is double-sided.  But I bit the bullet after procrastinating.  Do you have favourite products that you can’t bear to use?

I used an A4 Frame with a mat (Big W, Australia), but you could design this project for most rectangular box frames.

If you follow my blog, you will know by now that I like creating 3-D frames.  Check out some of my other creations – Framed Christmas Tree, Christmas Sampler.

Time required: 4 hrs of absolute fun  Experience Required: suitable for both beginner and experienced crafters

The tower roof was fussy cut from Basic Gray cardstock.  The Tangerine Tango ‘flag’ (right tower) was fussy cut from the DSP – it was originally the plume from a soldier’s helmut.  The shutters were punched using the Everyday Label Punch and trimmed to shape.

The brickwork on the towers was created using Pattern Party Decorative Masks and Embossing Paste coloured with Smoky Slate reinker on Smoky Slate cardstock (allow to dry).

The battlements (I had to look that word up on Google!) were fussy cut and I didn’t worry if they weren’t particularly even.

The door was fussy cut from DSP.  Tyler’s details, including name, birth weight and date of birth, was printed on the PC.

To provide depth to the scene, I used Foam Adhesive Strips, Stampin’ Dimensionals and Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The Fresh Fig background paper is the Myths and Magic DSP.

The name was created using a faux Eclipse Technique.  I die cut two versions of ‘TYLER’, one in Whisper White C/S and one in Bermuda Bay (Myths & Magic DSP).  The Bermuda Bay version was adhered to the Whisper White layer, slightly offset, with Foam Adhesive Strips.

The crystal ball, held by the wizard, was punched from Glimmer Paper with a 1/2″ circle punch.

Wow, I’m sure that they will treasure your picture. It’s fabulous. My niece loves unicorns and I can see me having to make a unicorn collage for her birthday.
