Day at the Beach

Day at the Beach shared overseas

I couldn’t wait to share this card with you cause there are not a lot of Aussie Christmas cards out there.  I had to wait until the recipient received it.  It is a special card.  Remember when my friend, Christine, a demonstrator in the USA, sent me a  Stampin’ Up! Paper Pumpkin kit (not yet available in Australia) and how excited I was and I did mention that I would have reciprocate.  Well, I did.  I sent Christine a stamp set, called a Day at the Beach, from the Holiday Catalogue that is only available in Australia (and NZ).  And she loved it especially as it had the snorkel and goggles as her husband loves to dive.

I decorated the inside of card as well.  I also did a special wrapping of the present – I am not a really good wrapper (you can take that anyway you like).  But as I had decided that the wrapping had to be all Stampin’ Up!, it turned out really easy.  I think I nearly fooled Christine in thinking that I might be a good ‘wrapper’.  I used the thinner This Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper (24 sheets per pack) and just layered some paper and retired ribbon and Baker’s Twine – great way to use up your stash.

Decorated card insert

In reality this was a pretty easy card to create, but it wasn’t the card I started.  I started off making an Aussie Christmas tree (idea cased from Donna Williams) using the thong image from the stamp set.  Yes, I stamped and fussy cut 30 pairs of thongs, so expect to see a lot more thongs (@flip flops) in upcoming projects.  But it didn’t work out.  Now I was determined not to waste them all so that is where the inspiration for this card came from.

The images were simply watercoloured and then fussy cut with the background from one of my favourites, the Serene Scenery Paper Pack.  The sentiment which was apt for this card came from the Holly Berry Happiness stamp set.  The colours used are Sahara Sand, Island Indigo, Pool Party and Emerald Envy.
