Ever needed a special gift for someone who is going through a difficult time?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sometimes you need a practical gift to help someone in need.  But you also want it to be made with love and from the heart.  It happened to me this week.  I considered flowers which are special but they will be gone in few days.  But anyone who is going through hard times, will hopefully be getting help and support from lots of friends and family and so handmade ‘thank you’ cards are a fabulous gift at this time.  It is a way of showing your love and support in a practical way.

I created the 12 ‘thank you’ cards featuring the English Garden Designer Series Paper (DSP), lined the 12 envelopes and then decorated the handmade gift box.  This project was based on tutorial by Jackie Bolhuis.  It uses half a pack of 12 x 12 Designer Series Paper (six co-ordinating sheets of patterned paper) each sheet cut into 6 inches x 12 inches and two sheets of matching 12 x 12 cardstock (I used Night of Navy).

The A4 cardstock for each of the cards was cut at 5-1/2 inches x 4-1/8 inches. I used Hello Honey, Mossy Meadow, Old Olive and Night of Navy Cardstock.Each card DSP front was cut at 4 x 6 inches resulting in 18 card fronts (even though I only used 13, including one for the card box itself).  Twelve of the card fronts were then cut into three pieces: 3″ x 4″; 2-1/4″ x 4″; and 3/4″ x 4″.  Each card was created using these three sizes, mixing up the patterns.

Sometimes I replaced the 3/4″ x 4″ strip with matching plain cardstock that was left over from the card bases’ cut out.  I used various punches and contrasting cardstock for the sentiments – each of stamped sentiments came from the One Big Meaning Stamp Set.

The bottom of the box was cut at 9-3/4″ x 8-1/2″ and scored on all four sides at 2 inches.  The top of the box was cut at 7-7/8″ x 6-5/8″ and scored on all four sides at 1 inches.  Cut the four flaps on the fold lines and then assemble the box using Tear and Tape.

I also lined the envelopes (note the size of them) using the Envelope Thinlits Dies.
